About

Lost Pets of South Australia is a dedicated, volunteer-run organisation committed to reuniting lost pets with their families. Established in 2013, the organisation has made significant strides in assisting pet owners throughout South Australia. Here’s an overview of what they offer and how they operate:

Services Provided

Lost and Found Platform:

The core of their operations involves maintaining an online platform where pet owners can report lost and found pets. This platform helps to centralise information and increase the visibility of lost pets, making it easier for community members to assist in the search efforts. Lost Pets of South Australia Facebook

Search and Assist Team:

The organisation has a dedicated search and assist team. These volunteers actively help in locating lost pets and reuniting them with their owners. They utilise various strategies, including social media outreach, community networking, and on-the-ground searches.

Chipblitz Microchipping Program:

One of their hallmark initiatives is the Chipblitz program. This program provides microchipping services for pets at a significantly reduced cost of $10 per pet. Since its inception, Chipblitz has successfully microchipped over 50,000 pets in South Australia. Microchipping is crucial as it increases the chances of reuniting lost pets with their owners by providing a permanent form of identification and is mandatory in South Australia for all dogs and cats. Funding and Donations

Lost Pets of South Australia relies heavily on donations to fund its operations. As a registered non-profit organisation, they emphasise transparency and efficiency in utilising funds to support their programs. Donations are crucial for maintaining the search and assist team, running the Chipblitz program, and other operational costs. They encourage community members to make regular, even small, donations to ensure they can continue offering these vital services. Donate

Community Engagement

The organisation’s approach is deeply community-oriented. They encourage local residents to participate by:

  • Volunteering: Volunteers are the backbone of their operations, contributing time and effort to search for lost pets, assist in events, and support administrative tasks.

  • Spreading the Word: Community members are urged to share posts about lost and found pets on social media and local networks.

  • Reporting Sightings: Reporting any sightings of stray or lost animals to help the team respond quickly.
